Overview

To maximise the panoramic views to the Atlantic Ocean from the beautful island of Colonsay, Highfield is an 'upside-down' house. The master bedroom with en suite bathroom, living room & large fitted kitchen are all upstairs which means the spectacular views out to sea & over the island can be enjoyed from these rooms & from two balconies attached to the living room and kitchen. Being an upside down house, 1 couple can comfortably rent the upstairs accommodation as a 'studio' type home (at a discount outside of the summer high season) or if there are more in the group then we can open up the additional bedrooms needed downstairs & price according to the number of guests.
Downstairs there are a further 4 bedrooms plus an additional living room which is perfect for kids to relax in & play games. In total the house has 3 double bedrooms, 1 twin bedroom & 1 bedroom with a single plus a bunk bed and there is also a sofa bed in the downstairs living room. There are a total of 5 bathrooms plus a porch & a utility room.
The 2 living rooms seat 14 people between them. 10 upstairs and 4 downstairs. There is a washing machine and an additional fridge/freezer in the utility room and the kitchen has a double oven with 6 electric rings.
The garden extends to 1/3 of an acre and looks over the community of Kilchattan to the Atlantic where you can watch the sun set over the Ocean. The garden is mainly grassed with guests children in mind.

A fantastic house on a magnificent island

Highfield is a beautifully appointed holiday home on the fantastic island of Colonsay. Large enough to sleep up to 13 people, the house has 6 spacious bedrooms and is set up for family groups in mind.

The sea views, garden and large amount of space helped us switch off and relax.

We had a wonderful time in the house and exploring the island generally and have already made a booking request for 2013!

Highfield, Colonsay - wonderful cottage & island

We spend Easter week in North West Scotland every year and have stayed in some wonderful places but Highfield ranks as one of the best, if not the best, so far. Superb house in an excellent location, a lovely island, and genuinely friendly and helpful local people.

The cottage was perfect, with beautiful views, and a really spacious and homely feel. All the rooms were fitted out to a high standard and the upside down design meant that the living room and kitchen were light and airy and took full advantage of the elevated location.

Our requirements are simple. Good walking, good cycling and nice beaches are all we ask and Colonsay, even though it's a small island, was superb on all counts. We were able to cover the whole island on bike or foot and so never had to touch the cars all week. Most other visitors seemed to have the same idea which meant that the roads were relatively free of cars. Highlights were the paddle across the Strand to Oronsay, Kiloran bay, Carnan Eoin and an off road cycle to Balnahard Bay which was well worth the effort. The pub quiz at the Hotel on Thursday night is a fun evening and a great excuse to test the output of the Colonsay Brewery.

Highfield is a fantastic place for a 'getting away from it all' holiday.

Hoping we can make a return visit soon!

Beautiful island and splendid house!

We spent a week at Highfield House in mid April, with 6 friends, to celebrate my husband's 60th birthday.

What a treat! We really couldn't have chosen anywhere more perfect.

Colonsay is one of the loveliest and most peaceful places we've ever been to ( as a group we have a combined age of just over 500 and so we've been to some pretty special islands over the years!) great beaches, superb walking, safe cycling and just the ticket for a chill out holiday. ( Do rent a bike from Twinkly Archie and his wife just 10 yards down the road)

Shop brilliant and you can preorder most things for your stay. Hotel and bar great - we had 2 delicious meals including my husbands 60th birthday dinner, and the staff couldn't do enough for us - don't take any notice of the silly tripadvisor comments re the hotel......this is Colonsay not London. What on earth do people expect?

Colonsay House was also lovely - gorgeous woodland gardens and the BEST homemade cakes we've eaten for a long time.

Highfield House met, indeed exceeded, expectations.
Beautifully renovated, excellently equipped.
Upstairs fabulously open plan, brilliant views, great master bedroom with very comfy superking bed and en suite bath/shower room.

Downstairs 2 doubles ( small-ish beds rather firm mattresses - friends' only teeny weeny little moan) one twin, and a useful room with large bunk beds and a single bed.
All bedrooms with either en suite or private bathrooms so no sharing!

The underfloor heating is superb and we were totally toasty.
Whole place spotlessly clean, and loads of space in entrance hall for coats, walking boots, golf clubs etc.
Huge fridge and plenty of freezer space, good utility room.
For the telly addicted - large flatscreen in upstairs sitting room where we all watched a dvd on our one wet afternoon. 2nd tv downstairs.

All in all a really super holiday and we most certainly will return sooner rather later, by which time of course, the house will be so popular that we won't be able to book!
